Cardiff on Film 1935!

The British Film Institute (BFI) has recently made an archive of old home movies available to the public. They have several excellent films about Cardiff and I recommend "Cardiff - the capital of Wales 1935".

This 34 minute silent movie covers just about every aspect of the city and is a must for all Cardiphiles and lovers of nostalgia. I particularly liked the brass helmeted firemen leaving the fire station of Westgate Street (now the multistorey carpark) and a Campbell's White Funnel steamer leaving the docks.

This was the world that my parents grew up in and just a few years later Dad would be training at Maindy Barracks and Mam would be a telephonist at the GPO, both of which are shown in the film. The places not my parents!

Here's the link. Sit back and enjoy!
