Great View from Mynydd y Garth

Mynydd y Garth South

I have just finished a walk up Mynydd y Garth to enjoy this view. It was a lovely, cold, sunny, late winter's day and looking south we could see Cardiff, the Bristol Channel, Flat Holm and the north Somerset coast. At 307 meters or 1007 feet Mynydd y Garth just qualifies as a mountain and the views in all directions are outstanding. To take the picture above I was standing on top of the 4000 year old burial mound shown below.

The mountain is just a bit too far out of town to be part of a Cardiff walking tour but it is not too difficult to get to. It is about a twenty drive from the city centre, there are occasional buses or you could take the train to Tongwynlais and walk up.
